Pfizer for children ages 5 and over is now available.
From 8 April 2022 booster dose will be available for ages 12-15 years.
Forest Lake Family Practice is an approved vaccination provider for the COVID-19 vaccines. We are happy to provide COVID-19 immunisation for our local area and wider community.

Booster Doses
2nd booster (4th dose) for patients over 65 years of age now available – must be four months after 3rd dose.
From 8 April 2022, the ATAGI has approved the booster dose for adolescents ages 12-15 years.
You are eligible for a COVID-19 booster dose if
- You are 18 years or older, and;
- You have had your second dose of your primary dose course of COVID-19 vaccination at least 6 months ago.
Benefits of a booster dose
Two doses of COVID-19 vaccine provide very good protection, especially against severe disease.
A booster dose will make sure the protection from the first dose is even stronger and longer lasting, and should help prevent spread of the virus.
A booster dose increases your protection against:
- infection with the virus that causes COVID-19
- severe disease
- dying from COVID-19.
A booster dose will continue to protect you, your loved ones and your community against COVID-19.
Booster doses will be free for everyone.
Who should get a booster dose
Booster doses are available to everyone 18 years and over who have had both doses of their primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago.
ATAGI is not currently recommending booster doses for:
- people aged 12 to 17 years
- people who are severely immunocompromised and have already had a third dose.

Booster doses for healthcare workers
Healthcare workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 response are at higher risk of infection. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends people working in a healthcare settings consider receiving a booster dose. Healthcare workers were prioritised early in the vaccination rollout, so many are due for their booster dose.
ATAGI recommendations on Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine use in children aged 5 to 11 years
Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination program will be extended to all children aged 5 to 11 years from 10 January 2022, after the Australian Government accepted recommendations from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI)

Updated advice on the AstraZeneca vaccine
There has been a link established between the AstraZeneca vaccine and a syndrome called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (TTS). This is an extremely rare, but serious, blood clotting syndrome. There appears to be a small risk of TTS in people 50 years and over, but this risk appears to be more common, although still rare, in younger people. In people aged 50 years and over, the benefit of vaccination with AstraZeneca outweighs the risks associated with vaccination.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the COVID-19 Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine as the preferred vaccine for people aged 16 to 59 years, but the AstraZeneca vaccine can also be provided to 18 to 59 year olds.
All residential aged care workers are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine regardless of age.If you work in residential aged care, you can contact the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080 and select option 4 for priority assistance and advice relating to booking your COVID-19 vaccine.
Pfizer is recommended for you if you are:
- Pregnant and/or
- 16-17 years of age. AstraZeneca is not approved for people under 18 at this stage
People aged 12-15 years of age are eligible to get vaccinated if they meet the following criteria:
- children with specified medical conditions
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander children
- children in remote communities, as part of community outreach vaccination programs
- People on National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and/or living with disability requiring frequent assistance with activities of daily living, including down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, and severe intellectual disability
